About the Artist

I am a self-taught artist, and my work is inspired and driven by a deep urge and inner need to create and express, through various forms, a living beauty and harmony.
I grew up in the coastal city of Mumbai, India, and have lived in California for a very long time, with the beach not far away. So it's little wonder that the ocean, which has a very special place in my heart, often forms the primary subject and focus of my paintings. Occasionally, I also paint abstracts and sometimes florals to express my deep love of flowers.
Predominantly, I paint in acrylic, gouache, and sometimes oil, with vibrant color being a distinct feature in each of my paintings.
In depicting the many external moods of the ocean, the outer beauty of a rose or an appealing abstract, the hope is that something of the deeper, truer, inner dimension, hidden just below the surface of all things, is also embodied and perceptible at least to those with a higher sensitivity.
The following words of the French artist Mira Alfassa (commonly referred to as The Mother of Sri Aurobindo Ashram - India) can best describe my endeavor.
“Some paintings are indeed very nice to look at - they have pretty and gorgeous colors, but when there are no living vibrations and deep harmony, then obviously the paintings are lifeless and without value. But where there is a combination of the two - outward charm and inner vision - then they are real and can be considered as true art.“
